“Bookworm Freddie and Hamster”
Hi, I’m Freddie Book Worm, glad you’re all here!
Did you know that reading a book has nothing to fear?
I do it all the time; I ingest it through my mind.
Every new book has something new to find.
It’s like going places I’ve never been.
I’ve been reading since I was five; now I’m ten.
My mom started reading to me when I was a little tike.
I always wondered why Mom named me Freddie, and not Mike.
Oh, I’m off track; let’s get back to the book.
I started out with a picture book, so all I had to do was look.
Mom made it exciting for me, telling me stories as time went on.
My favorite was the book of “Becky the Beautiful Black Swan.”
Oh, she was so beautiful; I was hungry to find more beauty.
As I grew up, I shied away from my favorite cereal, Tutti-Frutti.
And asked my mom, where can I go to find more books.
She said, “The Library on Tenth, and Day Brooks.”
Excited, I begged her to take me there over and over.
She finally agreed, so I ran for my coat and jumped in the Land Rover.
“Freddie!” she yelled; “Slow down, we’ll be there soon.”
I was so happy I almost jumped over the moon!
Once inside, I stood in awe; there were books galore!
Stacked here, to there, everywhere and more!
This is the trip of a lifetime; I said to myself.
As I looked at all the books stacked on every shelf.
Mom asked where the children’s section was for me;
A special section for curious kids just like me to see.
I saw hundreds and hundreds of books I can read;
From dinosaurs, birds, flowers, animals of every breed.
My mind was going a million miles an hour;
With all these hours of mind-bending powers.
All the learning I can do at home was a blessing,
I can read from my bed without even dressing.
The best part is I get to go on vacation on a pirate ship;
Or fly a balloon way up high or leave in a spaceship!
Come take a ride with my friend Hamster and me!
Learn all you can, nothing to fear, read it all for free!
