Charlie and His Christmas Tree Tradition

“Charlie, the Boy Filled with Love”

The last time I saw Charlie, he was cutting down this poor little tree.

“Everyone and everything needs to be loved and needed,” he said.

So he took that scrawny, poor little tree home. Giving it a loving home.

It was near Christmas. Charlie decorated it with a few lights and pieces of garland. Standing back, he admired how beautiful it was that he had taken the time to care for the little tree. It reminded him of Baby Jesus and His story. Of having no bed to lay His head in the manger with stars above.

As Charlie’s friends came running to see his tree, they asked, “Charlie, why this poor tree? Why did you get such a scrawny one?”

Charlie to them asked, “How would you feel, left alone on Christmas Day, standing there while no one cared?”

They all looked at each other and thought for a moment. Charlie kept admiring his beautiful tree, as he heard the whispering between each of his friends. Then one friend spoke up: “You are right, Charlie. It’s a beautiful tree.”

Then all the friends gathered around this poor little tree. They all began singing “O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree how lovely are your branches.”

That night became a special night. Charlie and his friends made a promise together. Every Christmas eve, they would find a little scrawny tree no one wanted, bring it home, and decorate it. They made it a loving tradition. Reminding everyone that no matter who or what you are, you matter and are worthy of being loved.

So the next time I saw Charlie, he was a happy little boy.
