Mom’s Love: A Birthday Tribute Poem

“Mom, I Miss You: Wishing You Were Here”

I know, dear, your birthday is here;

I’m so sorry, sweetie, I just can’t be near.

Many years ago, the Lord called me home;

I’m sorry, dear, you’ll need to celebrate alone.

The good Lord is caring for me just fine;

I see he is doing well for you also, in your time.

You look beautiful from my point of view;

Sometimes I get lonely thinking about you.

When I look upon what our past was at one time;

You smile like a beautiful, new church bell chime.

Knowing how you loved those bells as they rang;

And how our voices, blended with the songs we sang.

I miss those times with you; being together;

We weathered the toughest weather.

Then I left you unexpectedly all alone;

Oh, birthday girl, I wish I were home.

I’d like just one more day to hold you in my arms;

Smother you with motherly charms.

I’m so very sorry, my dear, loving child;

Chin up; I want to see your smile.

As your birthday, ends;

Remember the love I send.

One day we will be together, forever more.

Because the good Lord will someday open your door.
