“Seasons vs Elderly”
Four score and two days ago;
I salted sidewalks—shoveled snow.
Wintertime is here;
Give me hot cocoa; keep the beer.
It’s too cold; fingers freeze;
Noses turn frozen, lungs wheeze.
When you’re older, it’s colder;
Just proves I’m many years older.
My bones are brittle; they break;
One slip can earn me a get-well cake.
That was one day ago, and what a song.
Sidewalks are clear, and snows, now gone.
For the sun is out nice, and bright.
Squirrels are finding food without a fight.
Springtime is still—many moons away;
I look ahead to a beautiful day.
When birds sing and flowers bloom;
I sweep sidewalks once again with a broom.
Shovels being swapped for gardening tools;
I love springtime, where flowers are jewels.
Only to start the year over when;
The tree leaves start turning again.
As fall arrives in colors so grand;
Get the rakes out. Bring the band.
We’ll rake the leaves so snow can fall;
Then, this colorful season is over for all.
Snow will fall and delicately fly;
With cold air from our God up high.
Then it starts over again, wouldn’t cha know;
Needing to salt sidewalks—shoveled snow.
Wintertime comes back like a raging steer;
Give me a double hot cocoa; you keep the beer!
