Molly’s Fun Walks: A Poetic Dog Tale

“Molly Dog”

Mom, I want a walk.

Ruff, ruff — hear me talk.

Here’s my leash; let’s go.

I’ll try to not pull and go slow.

It’s beautiful outside;

No ice for us to slide.

Snow is gone, nice and dry;

Blue colors fill the sky.

Let’s go, Mom — I want to leave now!

Hurry up before I have my barking cow!

Ruff, ruff, ruff — come on, let’s go!

Hurry up; quit being so slow.

My sniffing nose wants to sniff away,

To see who’s been out before me today.

Oh, little Susie — she smells of perfume.

Mandy smells of lilacs; she sends me to the moon.

I miss my walks and sniffs each day when it rains,

And I’m the one who rarely complains.

Mom, will you hurry up? I don’t care about your make‑up.

I don’t care if you still have coffee in your cup!

Let’s go — you know how I get for my fun time outside.

Sam and Mindy have already walked and gone by.

Mom! Please hurry up; I don’t want to be the last Sniffin’ guy.

It’s about time you’re finally ready — hooray!

Hooray I get to go for my walk! I’m going to sniff away!

Oh, this will be so great.

I really can’t wait.

Hold on — the phone’s ringing… now what?

Mom answered the phone — the door just shut.

Oh no! My walk! I want my, walk!

I hear Mom excitedly talk.

My great Sniffin’, sun‑shining walk

It’s cancelled because of Mom’s talk.

Well, you win some and you lose some.

I guess now all I can do is nap, some.

Maybe later she’ll take me — I can only hope.

But a storm is coming; that’ll be a nope.

Oh, to be a cat — some days I wish I was that.

Poop in a litter box, and that would be that.

Authors note: Molly is a Great Pyrenees/Collie mix. She weighed 45 pounds in this picture now she is about 105 pounds. She did get to go for her walk after the rain as she does not like it when it rains.
