From Freezer to Disappearing Pie: A Dinner Saga ”
Well, well, open the refrigerator freezer and let’s see…
We have a chuck roast, Tater Tots, and peas to please.
Hamburger patties, pizza, garlic bread and something green.
Something green? What can it be? It’s frozen ~ looks mean.
Well, I guess I’ll keep digging deeper into this freezer mess;
Of unmarked, undated packages. Great, a memory test!
Skip it for now — a carton of ice cream, Popsicle’s, and cherries too.
Now what to make that my family won’t cry, boo hoo.
I’ll ask them what they’re hungry for;
If I don’t have it, it’s off to the store.
“Billy, what do you want to eat?”
Billy replied, “I want something sweet!”
Sally, I asked the same question: “What do you want to eat?”
Sally answers, “Mac and cheese with hot dog meat.”
Then, I’m going to ask my husband what he wants to eat.
His reply, “Anything the children are having will be okay, my sweet.”
Oh, righty then. The menu is done, created by my loving hungry gang.
Now to start the water boiling with a bing, and a bang.
Noodles cook away; hot dogs are the next phase
This is it, one of those nobody-cares kind of days.
They ought to be happy with what they wanted because it’s now made.
Sally is happy. Billy, not just yet. Husband says, “I made the grade.”
Dessert is on the way — cool, and refreshing ice cream and cherry pie.
Everyone was glad and gobbled it all up and said, “Thanks, Mom, goodbye.”
Now, to clean this mess, and enjoy my time.
I’m tired. I’m just going to quit this rhyme.
Ice cream and cherry pie sounds, good right about now;
I’d love a piece of pie, but—it’s, gone. They ate it all! Wow!
Dinner is done. It’s been fun.
Gotta love my family, to the very last crumb!
Author Note: Inspired by real-life freezer chaos and the sweet madness of feeding a family. No pies were harmed in the making of this poem. With one exception the one that vanished before Mom got her slice. Gotta love that family of mine!
