Finding Joy Beyond Disability of Being Blind: A Heartfelt Poem

“Sam, A Better Life Awaits Us Both!”

I may be a little deaf, and a little blind,
My words are always gentle always kind.
I sing with joy from my loving heart ~
I know I am a boy; that’s a good start.

Life on this Earth can be very rude;
God has taught me not to be crude.
I live my life simple; as hard, I can’t do;
It’s hard enough fighting shoelaces in my shoe.

I count my steps; I feel my way.
I do this every awaking day.
Like I said, I may be deaf, a little blind;
My words will always remain kind.

I cannot drive a car, like many of you;
some days I have a hard time, finding my shoe.
My guide is with a red-and-white cane~
to many of you, is quite a big pain.

Mine is very special, very needed by me;
it tells people that I am blind, I need it to see.
I live in a world of what you call black;
you see many colors to which, I do lack.

My other senses are sharper then yours;
I can still get things done, even daily chores.
I feed myself, do my wash, clean, and read a book.
However, you may think I’m weaker than I even look.

I live like you in almost everything I do;
I just do them different, maybe longer than you.
God has made me just who I am,
just as He made you, my dear friend Sam.

So, please, Sam, I am who I am;
my Father in heaven has a plan.
Just as he has a plan, for you, too.
We need not cry or go boo hoo.

God loves us equally ~ unconditionally.
Believe me, and you will soon see…
that one day when God calls me home;
He’ll give me sight, so I can see all I own.

In addition, that will be the day, I jump for joy.
and having sight, it will be to me, like a new toy!
God will also give me, my long-lost hearing;
that day, I’ll cry with joy, my heart revering.

The sounds I’ve been missing, I’ll finally hear;
it’ll be so very beautiful, so crystal clear.
Sam, it will be wonderful. Until then, patience I need;
faith for all the trials and tribulations to succeed.

So why should I be rude like the other people here?
I can wait for my time to come. I have nothing to fear.
Jesus, is my best friend ~ and so are you.
Be happy for me; don’t be blue.

You are my friend now and always will be.
What’s wrong with me is only temporary.
Come on, take my hand;
Let’s live life and understand:

We are loved by a power greater than we could ever know.
Read your Bible, Sam ~ soon your faith will grow…
in the love of Jesus Christ, who died for you and I.
and one day we’ll both meet Him, in the eternal sky.

For now, the angels are watching over us,
waiting for that special day, thus…
God, our Father, says, “Bring my Sons, home.”
