“One Lie After the Next”
One lie after the next —
See the truth, look at my text.
I’ve got it all on paper, if you want to read;
I don’t play the game of the lying seed.
I take my days one by one,
I live life even know some days aren’t fun.
I don’t need to lie, cheat, or steal,
My life is simple, true, and real.
I know this man, he lies upon his lies,
It’s so sad; that he silently cries.
He can’t remember what he said to whom;
Even moving from one room, he’s in for doom.
It’s sad he needs to live this way,
What a sad way to spend your day.
Saying what you want people to hear,
As though he’s drunk on beer.
How do you stop an addiction such as this?
How do you send lies into the abyss?
He needs help… oh, so bad;
He lies to everyone, even his dad.
One lie after another,
It’s sad because he’s also the children’s mother.
What is he teaching his children as they grow?
Are they going to lie to others, like dad did so?
They say children learn what parents teach;
I know I’m not the one to preach.
But, lying? I know right from wrong.
My own children are living with that lifelong song:.
I have taught, “Lies get you nowhere in life.”
They only bring on the worse kind of strife.
It’s just too bad that this man I speak of,
Can’t and won’t believe in God’s holy glove…
Of doing more right and not so wrong.
He’d be now singing a more calming song.
He’d be suffering less pain and grief,
If he’d stop lying and being a sneaky thief.
He’s hurting himself and his family too,
What a life, to struggle through.
I’m glad my life isn’t like his, with wool over my eyes.
For every day his is getting worse, thinking more lies.
God, I pray to you for his well-being.
Remove the hurt and harm that he’s not seeing.
For he knows not what he is doing to others.
Uncover his eyes, from the wool that covers.
So, he may come to see and do what is right,
And stop engaging his family with a fight.
Stop him Lord – please, today.
In your name, this I pray.
Author notes: This is a raw and honest look at what repeated lies can do to a person, a family, and a soul. This poem speaks from lived experience, faith, and the quiet strength of choosing truth even when others don’t. It’s a prayer, a warning, and a reminder that honesty brings peace where deception only brings pain.
