The Loving Heart of a Soldier’s Son: A Tribute Poem of Honor and Remembrance

“The Loving Heart of a Soldier’s Son”

“Michael, what’s with all those wonderful flowers?

Are you planning to plant some beautiful moonflowers?”

“Yes, I’m going to Soldier Field, where my father now lays.

He loved tending his gardens of flowers, but he had to pay…

With his life that ended on the wars front battle line,

For a country he cherished –steadfast and sublime.

Dad’s bravery will live forever in my heart,

As his son, I carry his memories and his Purple Heart.

To which his bravery and courage, have touched many souls.

And, if he retired, flowers were going to be his goal.

Planting, watering and weeding each beautiful one in sight–

Caring for their beauty was going to be his new fight.

But now my beloved Dad rests in Soldiers’ Field,

Where on his grave, flowers rarely bloom or yield.

So I’m honoring him by bringing flowers of beauty.

I’ll plant them in all his favorite shades of tutti-frutti.

Then Dad can be happy, I’m doing his gardening now,

And in spirit, he can still tend to his flowers somehow.

I love you, Dad”
