“Sponge Painting My Bathroom”
Oh dear, my enormous bathroom is so drab.
What can I do to make it look really fabulous?
I’ll buy some paint and have some fun,
Husband will say, “What have you done!”
I know I’ll sponge paint it green and light beige,
I found the pattern in a decorating book—the lovely page.
This will be so neat; I can hardly wait;
My walls and I — we have a painting date.
First to buy a big ocean sponge; randomly cut it all up.
Put the odd pieces into the garbage or save in a cup.
With an ocean sponge, it has many holes in it for the paint.
I hope that my paint is non-smelling; then I won’t faint!
I did all that. What’s the next step in what I want to do?
First, paint the walls green; that step is my first clue.
Oh boy, my green paint is super dark, even for me.
My husband is going to really bark; wait and see.
“Honey!” yells my husband, “This bathroom feels like a cave.”
“It is too dark for me; I can’t see to shave!”
Don’t worry, dear, I tell him, it will dry lighter–
Tomorrow the beige paint will make it brighter.
Today is my sponge painting day. It’s working out well.
It is turning out much better; I can already tell.
I like this a lot; I think my husband will too.
It will be green and beige, with no wallpaper or glue.
I love the uneven pattern results, but this is hard work.
Now when my husband sees it, he won’t go berserk.
On his way out, he said, “I hope your beige lightens it up.”
As he’s walking out the door with his coffee cup.
Ten hours have passed; my husband’s home,
He’s in a bad mood; I can hear him groan.
He heads to the bathroom to do his thing.
He yells, “I like it!” Then, quiet no sound, nothing.
Little did I realize that sponged walls would end up a game.
So enjoyable for my husband, and I both, the same.
Looking at the freshly sponged, painted walls,
reminds us of clouds over Niagara Falls.
From that day forward our bath it’s hard to leave,
Because of the many hidden pictures it does weave.
From rainbows to people, strange pictures you see.
But you need to let your imagination run free.
If I had to do this project over again,
I’d do it in a heartbeat only when…
I have a new sponge, paint and time,
To make another room two color shine.
