Kids Love Snow Mosquitoes: A Whimsical Winter Poem About Snowy Mischief

“Kids Love Snow Mosquitoes”

“Charlie and Paul, why are you wet?

It’s freezing out there — did you forget?”

But Charlie just grins like he’s in the know,

Chasing those tiny white crystals of snow.

“They’re cousins,” he claims, “to the summer pests —

Only these don’t bite, they just like to rest.”

They drift through the dark winter air so light,

Landing on windows like belly dancers in flight.

Snow mosquitoes shimmer as they tumble from the sky,

And when one lands on me… well, I can’t help but sigh.

Their lives are short — one warm touch, and they disappear.

We’re blamed for turning up the heat so they can’t reappear.

“Your body’s too warm!” them snow bugs complain.”

“One second on you and—poof—their a water stain!”

So go build a snowman, have fun — be a kid for a bit.

Stick out your tongue, let a few of them hit.

It’s harmless, it’s silly, it keeps you fit…

Paul swears it’s the best part of winter we’ll get.

Enjoy the joys of winter let the mosquitoes fly,

In a few months they will all say goodbye.
