“The Tale of Tillie Goldie”

Oh children, come gather round–

It’s story time with your favorite, Robin the clown.

Today he’ll read to you about tiny Tillie Goldie,

A little bird who lost her chirp, you see.

Tillie Goldie is very tiny and super cute,

Till she got herself stuck in an old rain suit.

That was hanging outside in the sun to dry.

She landed in the suit pocket, then began to cry.

Unable to chirp or make a sound,

She wondered if she’d ever be found.

Until a nice old man came for his suit,

And spotted Tillie Goldie silent, and mute.

“Oh little one,” he said with care,

“How in the world did you get stuck in there?”

Tillie looked up with a tear in her eye,

Wanting the man to free her back to the sky.

Carefully, the man, removed Tillie from his suit.

Saying to Tillie, “My aren’t you cute.”

Tillie Goldie was so happy to be unstuck,

That she hitched a ride on an on-coming truck.

The old man smiled, glad Tillie was now set free.

Yet sad she didn’t stick around; to be his pet, you see.

She sure was tiny… and awful cute.

But what would she do with me, a big old coot?
