Remembering 1970’s Clackers: A Nostalgic Childhood Toy

“Clackers”

With a clickety clack, clickety clack,

You’ll catch me doing the patty wack.

And if you ask what a clackety is—

I’ll simply say, “None of your biz.”

From one dingle berry to another,

We stick together like no other.

So I’ll do the clickety clack,

And you can do the patty wack.

Then off we go, our merry way,

Outside laughing through the day—

Playing with our clickety clacks,

And our clacker’s patty wack.

Authors Notes:

I used to have two sets of these as a child and was very good at playing with them. I was one of the few friends I had that didn’t get bruises from playing with them. Until they became banned toys as too many children were being hurt. It was fun times while they lasted.

****The picture of the two children shows an up-dated safer version of clackers that are made today.****
