“I Crashed My Kite: That’s Okay”
We all have heard the saying, “How have you been?”
Many of us write about it, and it’s not a sin.
Those few words can mean quite a lot–
Whether good or bad, or sometimes a plot.
We can lie or tell a made-up truth,
Or do strange things in a kissing booth.
No matter the daily circumstance,
Those words can have a secret dance.
For the one who answers maybe sick–
Or a lover who shares his precious stick.
Or it’s just one of those unforgiving days
When the mind wanders in a twilight haze.
You’ll never know what those answers will be.
“How have you been?” It’s a gas to hear and see.
What is your answer to that question today?
Can you answer truthfully and honestly say…
“I’m okay, I’m feeling quite well.
I’m not hiding anything — can you tell?
My voice doesn’t quiver; my bones are still.
But look, you guys, I refilled my quill.
I’ve gotten better at what I write,
But I let the wind crash my kite.
Just goes to show how I’ve been —
Writing again without a care or sin.
