How Reviewers Shape Poetry: An Ode to Their Craft

Two glowing feather quills, one blue and one gold, floating over an open old book with handwritten text.

Ode to the Reviewers

Oh, poetry reviewers, wandering line by line,

You catch every stumble, each rhyme out of time.

With keyboards ready, you swoop in to say,

“That third stanza’s lovely… but maybe try it this way?”

You quote all your favorites; you cherish what you love;

You sprinkle in blessings from heaven above.

You spot every comma that wandered astray,

And gently remind us it shouldn’t be that way.

Yet beneath all the comments, and suggestions,

You offer your help with good intentions.

For a poem feels lonely until someone reads through.

So this thoughtful ode is written in honor of you.
