Reminiscing the Old: Once New — A Poetic Journey Through Life’s Changing Times

A soft pastel illustration of a wooden memory box filled with symbols of the past — a tiny black and white TV, a rotary phone cord, a small Moon with a flag, a horseshoe, and a gold nugget — representing a lifetime of memories.

“Reminiscing the Old: Once New”

I’m just reminiscing of old,

When life was silver and gold,

Where gun men were, brave and bold.

I’m just reminiscing of old,

When horses and buggies were sold,

And men made a living mining for gold.

I’m just reminiscing of days of old,

When TVs were black and white,

And went off the air at midnight.

Was I really that old

When we landed on the moon–

Announcing “One small step for mankind.”

Really, was I old watching…

When we planted our American flag on moon?

I guess I was really that old?

Am I getting older as I

Remember phones hanging on walls,

Where cords tangled, every day.

Now I really feel, I’ve gotten older,

These new computers are hard to use.

Leaving me all jumbled and confused.

I’m just feeling so old.

My book of knowledge is full,

My body is whispering. “I’m feeling old.”

Things, become very scary now,

As I become frail and elderly,

My mind slowly drifts now and then.

As the older feeling I become,

The more of life I’ll someday forget–

But it’s part of life, I don’t regret!
