“Ode to Those Who are Different”
Oh, special people, making life work,
You catch every stumble, but don’t go berserk.
With crutches and wheelchairs, you rise to say,
“Life won’t get us down; we’ll just try it this way.”
You were born different than others we know,
It’s a challenging life, yet you make it go.
With different challenges from day after day,
You earn more credit than words can say.
For I am complete with my aches and pains,
But you people, push harder for all your gains.
I watch and learn, and I cherish you with love,
As God pours His blessings from heaven above.
You are special people, striving to do your best
Through trials and tribulations of every test.
You spot every opportunity that comes your way,
And gently remind us — it could be us someday.
Yet beneath all the special equipment you may have to use,
I want you to know, your much better than the ones who abuse.
Keep up the good work, pressing forward, I know you will;
Though some days it’s hard — sometimes not a thrill.
Remember this, you are special people in this life;
We are nothing compared to all your struggles and strife.
I send you my love and understanding,
In a world that can be so demanding.
