Using Symbolism in Poetry: The Power of Objects

“Show NOT Tell”

A cracked coffee cup,

lipstick stain fading,

cold as ice,

no one near.

A bus ticket dated exactly,

one year ago today,

creased and folded,

just sitting, collecting dust.

A single house key,

on a red string,

silently unmoved,

wondering, dreaming.
