“Too Much Coffee – I’m Wired”

I’m tired of being so tired.

I drink coffee, then I’m wired.

I brew 10 cups in my drip coffeepot;

It cooks my coffee so nicely and hot.

I pour one cup, then another;

Oops, I drank too much, help me, mother!

I’m not tired; now I’m very wired!

I’m buzzing like a bee, no longer tired.

I need to slow down, so I closed my eyes;

All I see are stars in the dark, of my eyelid skies.

I can’t sleep; there’s honestly way too much to do;

Cutting the lawn, trimming bushes, it’s too expensive to hire a crew.

The coffee, it’s wearing off, I am feeling so tired.

Got to have another cup; I need to get wired.

Work is still not done; I have lots to do;

The grass is long, and the sky is still blue.

Soon evening falls, my eyelids will too;

I must finish the grass I started doing.

Wife’s making dinner, I think; I’m winding down;

She comes to me and says, “Honey, let’s eat dinner downtown!”

I’m getting tired, I told her gently, with love;

Gee dear, as I take off my gardening glove.

We can go, I guess; get me a cup of coffee, please.

Just got done with the grass, now to sneeze.

I’m cleaning up, getting ready to go,

My wife says, “Come on, dear, let’s go.” I’m so tired though.

I say, to her, “Honey, you drive; I’m tired; I need some sleep.”

“Wake me up with the car horn; make it go beep, beep!”

My eyes are slowly closing. Asleep I went,

With wife driving to the restaurant, I heard her vent.

Drink more coffee when we get there; that will wake you up!”

Just give me my meal and the biggest coffee cup.

 I am drinking coffee again to keep me awake;

Something tells me all this coffee is a big mistake.

I’m getting wired; that’s what I get when I drink too much;

It puts my tired mind speeding and out to lunch.

Coffee is excellent — one cup, or two.

Not an entire pot of that great tasty brew.

So now you know why I’m not so tired;

The coffee I drank has made me, more wired!

For a peaceful and restful night of sleep, take my advice;

Please don’t drink coffee before bed; think twice!
