The Moment an Artist Sees the True Value of His Work

(A short story about an artist who discovers his work holds more value than he ever believed, thanks to a stranger’s honest, unexpected praise.)

Beauty, in the Eye of the Beholder

With my final artwork beautifully hung, I stared at its beauty in the bright, sunlit art gallery. The five-hundred-dollar price tag felt like it stared back at me, daring me to believe in myself. Another admirer stepped beside me and complimented the piece, saying he would double the price for something with that kind of beauty.

My adrenaline surged at the sudden thought that my work might be worth more than I ever imagined. And I, being the coward, I am, started questioning everything. Why had I priced my art so low? Why do I always question my talent? It takes a stranger’s voice to make me realize the value of my art. That value has been right in front of me all along. I am a valuable artist.
