(When a child loses someone they love, finding the right words can feel impossible. This gentle poem is written to help parents, grandparents, and caregivers explain death in a soft, comforting way that a child can understand. May it bring clarity, comfort, and a little peace during a difficult moment.)

“Mommy Died… What am I Going to DO?”

“Daddy, can you stop fixing your wheel?

I want to talk to you on how I feel.”

~

“Daddy, I know mommy just died.

Why am I crying? This feeling I cannot hide.

Is she ever coming back?

This information is what I lack.”

~

“Tell me, Daddy… where did she go?

This I really want to know.”

~

“Well, my dear child, I will tell you a tale,

Of an angel soul who had to set sail.

~

See on that special day that we are born,

A special Angel came and blew his horn.

And in that horn, there was a day

When you’re told to come back home to stay.

~

Until that day, we live our lives as we choose,

Loving all that comes — we do not lose.

Now, Mom’s day arrived, as the Angel had known.

Her inner soul went with the Angel, and they had flown

~

To the clouds to join more like her.

This is why your eyes do blur.

For your hurt and pain are from missing her,

For you want things to be as they once were.

~

You also want to see her smiling face,

As you saw it here in our loving place.

I know you want to feel Mom’s loving touch,

For these are the things you’re missing oh so much.

~

I’m sorry, my dear… Mom won’t be coming home.

She’s with the Angels in the clouds, where she will roam.

Yet she can see you everywhere and every day,

She can also hear everything that you do and say.

~

Your mom is so special now that she has gone away.

Did you know you carry her with you every day?

Just look inside your mind and your heart —

See and feel her memories, for they will never part.

~

Mom left you, and everyone, a special part of her.

She left memories that will not be forgot, that is for sure.

Just remember all the hugs and kisses Mommy gave you and others,

For now she has joined a new Mommy club, with many new mothers.

~

Mothers who are now looking down through the clouds to see their children.

Just remember to look up at the sky — watch and listen.

For Mom is always going to be there,

As she will always love you and knows you still care.

~

This is why you hurt inside and cry.

Mom sees you — she is winking from the sky.

For her love for you

Will always and forever hold so true!”

~

XOXOXOX
