Chores and Creatures: A Lighthearted Cleanup

Little girl with a broom and dustpan doing a chore

“Clean Floor: What a Chore”

As I get the dustpan and the broom.

A little mouse hurried across the room.

Using my broom, I tried to chase his little tush

But couldn’t catch him, or he’d be mush.

~

Then a large centipede with its many legs

Come looking for food, he surely begs.

“Sorry, buddy, I say, no food for you here;

Be on your way; you have nothing to fear.”

~

Now, what was I going to do?

Oh yes! Broom-dustpan, that’s my clue.

Broom in one hand, dustpan in the other.

Interruptions are many; now I hear my mother.

~

“Hey daughter, what’s taking so long?

After chores, put the things where they belong.

Then you can go outside and play.

It’s beautiful and bright this sunny day.”

~

My chores are done, mouse is now gone.

Broom and dustpan are where they belong.

Time to go outside and play.

This is the best part of my whole day!
