(A tender, crying green pepper whose glossy tears and trembling expression bring this whimsical poem to life.)
“The Lonely Pepper”
“Poor little green pepper, why do you cry?
Do you miss Mommy? When she jumped in the pie?”
~
My mommy, she forgot to take me;
I’m sad now, as you can see.
~
I wanted to go, but she said no.
She told me she wanted me to grow.
I’m crying; I don’t know how to grow or swim.
My dad died, so I never got to learn from him.
~
It’s just me, all alone;
Grandma and Grandpa don’t have a phone.
They couldn’t hear me… anyway;
They lost their hearing during chili days.
~
The music was loud; I got lost;
I ended up cold and full of frost.
With Mommy gone and Daddy too;
There’s nobody left to love me. “Please, will you?”
~
Then I can stop my sad little tears;
For you will put to rest my tiny fears.
And that is the comfort I need now
Please, love me, love me now.
