Understanding Hurricanes: Destruction and Resilience

“Echoes of the Hurricane”

I am a Hurricane, without any name,

I cause you damage; it’s no game.

I churn and whirl in water so vast,

Never knowing how long I will last.

~

From a gentle breeze, that’s like a sigh,

To a raging storm that fills the sky.

As I gather my strength, I increase my speed

To make me a hurricane this is my need.

~

Slowly drifting, from sea to shore,

Leaving behind a tale of lore.

Being a force of nature, wild and grand,

I can wipe existence right off her land.

~

I am a mean son of a gun,

Surely not a friend full of fun.

Only visiting days not just a few hours,

I bring havoc to all with my powers.

~

From heavy rain and gusty winds,

To the chaos that my presence brings.

I tear through your towns with a might roar,

Leaving behind a world that’s sore.

~

Yet as quickly as I came, I receded and faded away,

Leaving silence in my wake, a sad and quiet day.

As the sun peeks out and the skies once again turn blue,

Seeing the aftermath of me has changed from what you once knew.

~

Time for communities to come together as one to help rebuild,

With much favor and love to which God has instilled.

For though I was fierce and cause much loss and pain,

Resilience and hope of human life will always remain.
