Bill Paying Is for the Birds: A Humorous Poem About Budget Struggles

Dollar bills with wings flying out of an open window above a city street view

“Tired of Paying Bills”

Bill paying is for the birds;

I’d rather fight with alphabetic words.

Pay this bill; you’ve scrimped and saved;

But that is not how the bills ever behave.

~

Got a great budget, everything is going right;

A bomb goes off and the budget takes flight.

Scrimp and save, squeeze some more,

Close the window, maybe too, the door.

~

You hope no catastrophes happen and hit your floor.

As the budget money can fly right out the door.

Our money has wings it flies like birds.

Just a little cleaner, numbers not words.

~

With paper trails piling high to the sky.

Makes my eyes tearful. They just want to cry.

Bill paying is surely for the birds.

I’d rather fight with, alphabet words.

~

Birds can have my piles of bill scraps

They can build a nest, perhaps

Have fun, you darn old birds

I’ll stick to my alphabetical words.
