What’s the bravest thing I’ve ever done when no one was watching?
Honestly, it was the day I decided to clean my husband’s 350‑gallon fish tank the one filled with his pride‑and‑joy, expensive fish, all by myself. I wanted to surprise him for our anniversary, and I thought yes… what a great idea! How hard could it be?

Well… the glass was easy. The bottom vacuuming? Not so much.
He had shown me how to do it once, but doing it alone felt like defusing a bomb. I kept thinking, Don’t suck up a fish. Don’t hurt a fish. He’ll kill me if one of these fancy fishes disappears.
But I finally worked up the nerve, took a deep breath, and vacuumed the whole bottom. And miracle of miracles I didn’t suck up a single fish. When I finished, the tank sparkled, the fish were happy, and I felt like I had conquered an ocean of fish.
When my husband came home from an exhausting day, he stopped in front of the tank as he did everyday to see his pride and joys. Then he noticed, and said, “Honey… you did clean my tank? You did a wonderful job. And I don’t see any fish hurt or even missing.”
I just sighed with relief and told him, “I didn’t get you anything for our anniversary, so I got my nerves together and cleaned your tank. I did it all by myself. I thought it might surprise you and give us more time together. Happy Anniversary.”
He smiled and said, “Thank you. That was very brave of you. I see you didn’t have any problems since you did such a beautiful job. How about I take you out for a nice dinner?”
And that’s the bravest thing I’ve ever done when no one was watching — risking my life for a tank full of fish worth more than my car, just to make my husband smile.
